Sometimes Rest in Peace isn’t an option.

Kacie Ramsey sees ghosts—and it’s ruining her life. Her mother left, her father blames her, and no matter how hard she tries, she can’t keep the ghosts away. Now a new power has emerged. Nightly visions of grisly murders and a relentless predator draw her to the brink of insanity.

When the phantom appears at a party, Kacie’s longtime crush, Logan, saves her. He invites her to join the Orion Circle, a group of supernatural hunters with chapters in schools all over the country. Through the Circle, Kacie learns to embrace her spiritual powers, and for the first time in her life she feels in control rather than a victim.

But the Foxblood Demon will not give up so easily. A demented serial killer in life who trapped the souls of the thirteen children he murdered, imprisoning them within the walls of his mansion. Now in death, he plots his return while drawing power from the pure souls of the children. He recognizes something in Kacie he’s never seen before—a medium powerful enough to provide a vessel for his tainted soul.

Kacie can’t ignore the tortured souls of the children crying out to her every night. With Logan at her side, she will fight the Foxblood Demon. But can they banish this powerful phantom, or will Kacie lose not only her body, but her eternal soul to the monster.

My Thoughts:

I am a huge fan when it comes to reading about ghosts, demons, etc. Whether there is horror included or not, doesn’t matter, I’ll still read it. Tortured souls had a very interesting paranormal concept to it. Before I read this book I was mostly reading fantasy and contemporary. I thought it was time for a change and I needed some paranormal in my life. So I gladly picked this one up and was not disappointed.

I like how the story instantly picks up from the start and that it didn’t have a beginning where it dragged on through out the book. In just a few chapters it gets right to the point, and we are introduced to the main characters, a secret society, and a hint as to what the main problem could possibly be.

Told from a point of view of what may seem like your typical teenage girl, Kacie, who actually holds a deep, dark secret, that normal humans just won’t understand. Things that the naked eye cannot see, with the exception of only those who have specials powers, including Kacie. It was not hard to feel sympathy for Kacie. She’s been living a tough life, not being able to tell anyone about her strange powers, and even if she did, who was there to believe her? That changed when she learns that there may actually be people who share the kind of power she has, or even believe in it, when she is invited to a secret society club at her school called “The Orion Circle”, by a boy named Logan, who recently had discovered about Kacie’s secret, and may know a thing or two about it. Though Kacie was a great character, there were times when she cried and got scared over things easily, but that soon changed near the end of the book when she grow out of that shell, and becomes more of a stronger person.

I thought the fact that is a secret society club no one knows about with the exception of those who are a part of it called “The Orion Circle” to be really cool. The members who are a part of the club, are investigators who do research on strange paranormal activities that occur. Those characters had definitely added depth to the plot, and them trying to solve a case had me intrigued to read on, as I love mystery.

Oh, and I almost forgot, Logan. Ah~Logan. All I’m going to say about him is that I instantly fell for him from the start, as he was such a sweet heart, always being supportive to Kacie during the most toughest times. Honestly, how you can not like a guy like Logan? Seriously.

This book did have its dark moments full of action which I really loved, and the pacing went very smoothly to a point where it was just right, that I didn’t find my self getting bored or wanting to stop reading.

I am looking forward to see what will happen next in this series as Tortured Souls overall, was such an enjoyable book to read. I recommend you check it out including those who love anything ghost related, paranormal, or even feel like trying something new.
